NCPEID offers various resources for practitioners to help provide quality adapted physical education/activity programming for individuals with disabilities.  


Instructional resources

Listed sites can be utilized and navigated by teachers who would appreciate ideas for teaching children with disabilities.

National Center on Health, Physical Activity and Disability (NCHPAD) is a public health practice and resource center on health promotion and education for individuals with disabilities.

University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Center on Disability Health and Adapted Physical Activity provides valuable instructional videos that can be used by teachers, parents, and college students.

Assessment tools

 Listed assessment tools can be used for students with disabilities to measure motor skill development and health-related physical fitness.

Test of Gross Motor Development -3 (TGMD3) is an assessment tool of 13 fundamental motor skills of children with and without disabilities.

Brockport Physical Fitness Test (BPFT) is a criterion-referenced health-related test of physical fitness of young people with disabilities. Also, check below.

Developmental Assessment for Individuals with Severe Disabilities – 3 (DASH-3) is a criterion-referenced test measuring specific skill levels in children and adults with disabilities. The tool is composed of five scales to examine a developmental sequence. 

Peabody Developmental Motor Scales -2 (PDMS-2) is composed of six subtests that measure interrelated motor abilities of children from birth through 5 years of age.

NCPEID APE Assessment Chart is developed by Dr. Melissa Bittner and Dr. Amanda Young from California State University-Long Beach. The document includes a list of assessments that can be used in APE.
